IDEA #120: Pay-it-Forward Restaurant Coupons

The idea is likely for neighborhood restaurants. Get them to all collaborate and have a free appetizer or dessert coupon [or $5 off or $10 off]. When you go to one restaurant, with your check at the end of the meal you get a coupon for one of the other neighborhood restaurants to explore. Ditto after that meal you get another coupon. Kind of a ‘pay-it-forward’ idea. These coupons likely expire in a specific month, so that they give some time urgency to the consumers to use them.

It should result in bringing in some new faces from the neighborhood to try out the foods at these restaurants. Maybe the coupon has some recommendations on the back of it by area residents.

    Great idea, but would restaurants want to give away coupons to a competitor? It might be a little hard to pull this one off.

    This is a very interesting idea and I think it’s doable. Every restaurant wants to bring in more business, especially nowadays. This is like a JV for restaurants, they helping each other so it benefits them all. You help me I help you type thing. The inner circle of restaurants!

    They all want to support local businesses, so it seems like a natural thing to do. It encourages more local restaurant visits.

    I had been mulling over a similar idea for a while. There a lot of opportunities to share and refer business without losing to “competitors”. For example, the sandwich shop gives a coupon for dessert at the ice cream shop.

    Well… the idea is interesting but being not a restaurant owner myself, how would I benefit from the collaboration between the restaurants? I would like to know in details regarding this idea.
